Summer has officially landed in the world of flight simulation, and PMDG is leading the charge with a major update cycle just in time for FlightSimExpo 2025. Let’s break it all down.
First up is the Boeing 777 series. PMDG has announced that Build 115 will roll out next week for the full fleet, covering all existing 777 models—200, 300, freighter and more. This build focuses on eliminating minor bugs and polish items that have been fine-tuned over weeks of updates. The 777-200LR is also moving rapidly toward final release, with PMDG eyeing early July for delivery, though exact timing may shift slightly around the 4th of July holiday and the team’s involvement at FSExpo. Also in the pipeline is a brand-new sound package for the 777 series, expected to debut later in July. PMDG has been developing these sounds in parallel to their core work and they promise a dramatically improved soundscape once ready. And for those dreaming of the 777X, PMDG confirmed they’re open to the possibility but note it would require discussions with Boeing before any work could begin.
Meanwhile, the Boeing 737 series is undergoing significant work as PMDG transitions their products fully into the MSFS 2024 platform. The move includes a complete internal restructuring to adapt to the new simulator architecture, improve stability, and prepare for future feature expansions. Owners of the PMDG 737 NG series for MSFS 2020 will be able to access the MSFS 2024 version via a discounted upgrade path, regardless of whether they purchased through Microsoft Marketplace or directly from PMDG. Like the 777, the 737 will also receive a fully rebuilt audio package. However, for those wondering about a 737 MAX, PMDG was clear: there are no active development plans for a MAX at this time, as current technical testing and firewall issues between PMDG's enterprise and retail teams have paused any such development.
All of this comes just in time for FlightSimExpo 2025, taking place June 27–29 at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence, RI. PMDG will be on-site, offering demos of both the 777 and 747, handing out swag, and connecting with the community. The Expo kicks off Friday with a series of product reveals and special presentations, followed by a full weekend of exhibits, panels, workshops, and networking. Topics will range from AI in flight simulation to hardware developments, realism discussions, VATSIM insights, and even a session exploring why some flight sim businesses struggle.
For Sky Blue Radio readers, the takeaway is simple: PMDG is delivering significant updates across their product line, with new builds, better sound, and ongoing adaptation to the next generation of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Whether you're updating your aircraft, exploring the booths at FSExpo, or tuning into Sky Blue Radio for coverage, it’s an exciting time to be part of the flight sim community. We’ll have full coverage from FSExpo next weekend, including interviews, first looks, and behind-the-scenes updates straight from the show floor.
Stay tuned!
