Flight Sim news

As we cruise into summer, the team behind X-Plane has dropped some exciting news on what's coming next for simmers around the globe. With version 12.2.0 nearly complete and already earning praise for its impressive new cloud rendering system, the developers aren’t slowing down one bit. In fact, they’ve just unveiled the next two upcoming releases, and there's plenty to be excited about!

First up: 12.2.1 - The Gateway Scenery Update

This will be a small but valuable update, focused on enhancing scenery creation and adding a little extra flavor to the world of X-Plane:

  • New scenery assets for use in WED (World Editor)

  • A brand new heliport

While it's a minor update, scenery developers and heli lovers will definitely appreciate these new additions.

Then comes the big one: 12.3.0 - The Weather Update

Mark your calendars, because 12.3.0 is shaping up to be a game changer for virtual aviators who love flying through the elements. Here’s what’s in store:

  • Weather Radar

  • WX/WXR API (for developers and third-party integration)

  • G1000 Synthetic Vision

  • A330 Improvements

  • ExVis Device Improvements

  • A brand new enhanced airport

The addition of weather radar and synthetic vision brings even more realism to the cockpit, and the expanded API promises to give developers powerful new tools to integrate live weather into aircraft systems. Plus, A330 pilots can look forward to fresh improvements that will make long-haul flights even more immersive.

The team also teased that more weather updates are on the horizon, so this is just the beginning of even deeper atmospheric realism in X-Plane.

Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to release, and in the meantime, let's kick off summer with some great flights. Blue skies and happy landings from all of us here at Sky Blue Radio!
