Denver International Airport (DEN) may soon add another feather to its long-haul cap—this time from the desert sands of Dubai. According to airport CEO Phillip Washington, Emirates could be the next major international carrier to land at DEN with direct service from Dubai (DXB).
In an interview with Aviation Week, Washington hinted at the game-changing route, stating, “Our next new direct flight will likely be Dubai with Emirates.” While the airline has not officially confirmed the move, the buzz alone is enough to excite aviation geeks and global travelers alike.
This potential launch would mark Emirates’ first foray into Colorado and significantly elevate Denver’s international profile. The route would also be DEN’s first direct connection to the Middle East, currently only reachable via one-stop itineraries through European hubs like Frankfurt or Istanbul.
Timing couldn’t be better. Just weeks ago, Lufthansa upgraded its Denver–Frankfurt service to the mighty Airbus A380, signaling strong transatlantic demand. Emirates, with its own fleet of iconic A380s, could follow suit—depending on passenger volume and operational needs. Imagine boarding one of those double-deck giants right here in the Rockies!
A partnership with United Airlines, Denver’s dominant hub carrier, could further fuel the route’s success, offering seamless connections across the U.S. and beyond.
This move aligns with DEN’s bold vision as a “future-facing hub.” The airport’s infrastructure, expansive layout, and room to grow make it an ideal candidate for global expansion. Another route under discussion is a link to Addis Ababa, although that flight would likely require a stopover in Europe.
For now, all eyes are on Dubai. If Emirates makes it official, travelers in the Mountain West will gain a new gateway to the world—nonstop and in serious style.
