In a recent incident at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, two Delta Air Lines flight attendants were removed from duty after failing random breathalyzer tests before a scheduled flight to New York’s JFK Airport. One attendant registered a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.143—seven times the Netherlands’ legal limit of 0.02 for flight crews—resulting in a fine of $1,900. The other had a BAC of 0.024 and was fined $290. Despite their removal, the flight departed on time.

The Netherlands enforces strict regulations, prohibiting flight crews from consuming alcohol within 10 hours of duty. Delta Air Lines reiterated its zero-tolerance alcohol policy, emphasizing that such violations are unacceptable.

This incident highlights the critical importance of adherence to alcohol consumption regulations in aviation, ensuring passenger safety and maintaining trust in airline operations.
