The recent case of a United Airlines passenger being violently dragged off a packed plane has focused attention on the issue of overbooking — especially when unwilling passengers are forced to give up their seats.
(And that’s despite the fact that initial reports that UA flight 3411 was overbooked turned out to be wrong. However, the plane was full, and the passenger, 69-year-old Dr. David Dao, was removed so that an airline employee could take his seat.)
