Origami Studios has once again, taken to their Facebook page to release a preview statement concerning their upcoming freeware rendition of Barra Airport (EGPR) for X-Plane 11.

Popular scenery developer, Origami Studios, has stated that they are proud to showcase their first freeware rendition. Despite the minuscule size of the airport, the developer has not cut any corners when developing this scenery. In fact, the scenery is built using 4K PBR textures, enhancing the detailing of the buildings and artifacts. The modelling is true to the real design of the airport.

Origami Studios has elevated the level of detail of the rendition by accurately modelling the interior of the terminal, with paintings, a desk, chairs and tables.

The terrain around the airport is also modelled in 3D and is retouched through colour correction and texturing. The landing area includes custom placed visual cues in order to help landing pilots.

Barra Airport is a short-runway airport located at the northern tip of the island of Barra, in Scotland. This airport is quite exclusive as it is known to be the only airport in the world where scheduled flights use a tidal beach as the runway. The airport also has specific operational timings as, during high tide, the runway is engulfed by the sea. Loganair is the sole operator at the airfield and uses Twin Otters for daily flights to Glasgow. Pilots can expect to land on short 800m sand strips in gusty conditions, matching the criteria for a challenging approach.
