Historic Aviation – The Demise of the BAC TSR-2

Despite being shrouded in secrecy and falling victim to competing global interests, many historians still agree that the British BAC TSR-2 was one of the most advanced strategic bombers of its time. Capable of sustained cruise at Mach 2.0 at 51,000ft and an effective range of 3,400nm, no other aircraft on the planet could match its performance.
Yet in the height of the Cold War, the battle for air superiority was not only between NATO and the Soviet Republic, but within NATO itself. The TSR-2 was ultimately abandoned in favour of American F-111 Aardvark as a more cost-effective option; yet the events to follow, despite numerous prototypes built, remain steeped in conspiracy – even today.
