HiFly lands Airbus A340 in Antarctica

Landing airplanes in the remote, desolate and unforgiving environment of the Southern polar region is nothing new. Scientists and Military expeditions regularly fly to Antarctic-based airfields for a multitude of purposes although the aircraft used are typically more suited to such rugged conditions; including the use of snow/ice-packed runways.
For the first time ever, HiFly has flown and landed a chartered A340 to one such airstrip and captured the entire approach on camera. Never before has such an airliner operated well beyond its designed purpose. The video results are breathtaking.
