F-35 Arrives At MCAS Beaufort, SC

f35BEAUFORT, SC. (WJCL) – A week after the Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 relocated to Beaufort, their high tech planes have joined them.

The first of the F-35B Lghtning II Joint Striker Fighter jet arrived at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. The new high tech jets will replace the Marine Corps’ aging fleet and will allow them to operate in harsh conditions and from remote locations.

They can also operate from amphibious ships.

“Today in conjunction with VMFAT 501′s arrival last week in the Lowcountry marks a new chapter in Marine Corps aviation,” said Lt. Col. Patrick Fitzgerald, Executive Officer-MCAS Beaufort. “We’re extremely proud of all the marine, sailors, and civilians that made it possible for the f-35 to touchdown today in Beaufort and call it home.”

Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort is the Marine Corps’ only F-35B training site.
