If you’ve ever crept along an Icelandic canyon at “low and slow” speed only to spot a legendary waterfall… standing perfectly still like it got turned into a wallpaper, you’re not alone. While Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has improved terrain generation in big ways, moving water can still look oddly frozen at close range.

That’s exactly the gap Cli4D Designs is aiming to fix with a new scenery package called Waterfalls of Iceland for MSFS 2024, built to add animated water motion, along with sound and spray effects across many of the country’s most famous cascades.

Built for the “fly under 500 feet” crowd

Cli4D has carved out a niche focusing on natural features the sim often struggles with, following earlier work in places like Yosemite and Switzerland. This Iceland pack replaces the sim’s stretched, static waterfall textures with custom 3D models and animated particle effects, so the falls actually look like they’re falling when you swing past in a Cub, helicopter, or bush plane.

Highlight locations

A few standouts:

  • Dettifoss, noted as Europe’s most powerful waterfall, updated to better convey its volume and spray.

  • Seljalandsfoss, where cliff geometry has been adjusted so you can fly behind the falling water, reflecting the real-world path behind the falls.

  • Hengifoss, with attention to the area’s recognizable red-strata cliff look.

The package also includes a hefty list of other Iceland favorites like Goðafoss, Gullfoss, Skógafoss, Svartifoss, Hraunfossar, plus multiple falls in Jökulságljúfur Canyon and a bunch of smaller “hidden gem” locations.
