Chudoba Design Releases Freeware Matalla Airport for X-Plane

Small Czech developer Chudoba Design has taken to his webpage to announce the release of his freeware Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (VCRI) rendition for X-Plane 11.

Chudoba explained that he rendered this scenery as a challenge. He wanted to see how much of the airport he was able to create within 24 hours. Although he wasn’t able to finish the whole airport in this time frame, he stated that he was able to complete the terminal building.

Nonetheless, this challenge did not affect the quality of the scenery. The airport is modelled to a very high degree of accuracy. All the usual features of a quality scenery such as HDR lighting, PBR texturing and custom ground objects are implemented.

The terminal building is hand-crafted. It features PBR texturing as well as night lighting, enabling nocturnal pilots to fly with ease.

The distinct airport tower is also fabulously rendered. This decorates the tropical airport with a futuristic ambience.

Mattala Rajapaksa Airport is is an international airport serving southeast Sri Lanka. Infamously known as the world’s emptiest airport, the hub serves the Hambantota district. Despite its deserted reputation, the airport has seen an increase in traffic since the Covid-19 pandemic. Its 3500m runway allows the airport to handle all sorts of traffic. From the seasonal UIA Boeing 737-900ER incoming from Kyiv, to even the mighty Antonov 225 (which landed in 2018).

This scenery is available for download on Chudoba’s website. It is also free of charge.
