Boeing has launched its groundbreaking Virtual Airplane Procedures Trainer (VAPT), designed to modernize pilot training with a more flexible and immersive experience. Built on the Microsoft Flight Simulator platform and powered by high-fidelity simulation technology from PMDG, the VAPT allows pilots to practice flight-deck procedures anytime, anywhere—using devices like laptops and tablets.

Unveiled at the European Aviation Training Summit in Portugal, the platform aims to reduce reliance on traditional full-motion simulators and speed up pilot readiness. By providing realistic, 3D visualizations of aircraft systems and operations, the VAPT gives pilots a powerful tool for familiarization and procedural reinforcement.

A key component of the platform is its authoring tool, which enables airlines to rapidly create and deploy customized training scenarios, giving training operators more control than ever before.

Currently supporting the Boeing 737 MAX family, with additional aircraft in development, the VAPT is the latest example of Boeing’s push toward scalable, digital-first training solutions. PMDG, whose simulation technology powers the platform, played an essential role in its development.

PMDG CEO Robert Randazzo in a statement to Sky Blue Radio, “PMDG has long been recognized for the high-fidelity and technical accuracy of our simulation technology. We were proud that Boeing saw the value in our capabilities and selected our technology to assist them in reaching their goals.”

The Virtual Airplane platform marks a significant step forward in advancing pilot training through innovation—and could signal a new industry standard for high-tech, on-demand aviation training
