The Boeing 747 holds a special place in the hearts of aviation enthusiasts around the world, and PMDG is bringing this iconic aircraft to Microsoft Flight Simulator with an unprecedented level of detail and authenticity. The 747 product line, currently in development, promises to capture the wonder and complexity of this legendary aircraft, and we’re thrilled to share some early updates with you.
Early Development Insights
During a recent project review, PMDG shared in-development images of the 747-100’s wings. These images highlight the intricate craftsmanship going into this project, from the detailed reverse flow vanes in the nacelles to the variable camber leading-edge devices and flaps.
While these images are still untextured and taken directly from the modeling software, they give us an exciting glimpse into the realistic animations and structural behavior being built into the aircraft. From the subtle flexing of the wing to the precise operation of its components, this project is shaping up to be a masterpiece of simulation design.
The 747 Lineup
PMDG’s 747 product line will kick off with the 747-100 and 747-400, both featuring passenger and cargo variants. The 747-400 will include all three engine types, offering an incredibly diverse range of options for simmers.
But the journey doesn’t stop there. The 747-200 and 747SP will follow as part of PMDG’s commitment to bringing the “classic” side of the 747 family to life. Later in the development cycle, the 747-300 and 747-8 series will join the lineup, allowing simmers to experience the evolution of this iconic aircraft from its earliest days to the most modern version.
A Commitment to Detail
The PMDG team is pulling out all the stops to ensure the 747 is a true-to-life simulation. Every feature, from structural animations to system functionality, is being meticulously recreated. Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Realistic wing structure with authentic movement and flex.
- Highly detailed reverse flow vanes and leading-edge devices.
- A complete suite of engine options for the 747-400.
- Passenger and cargo variants for the 747-100 and 747-400.
- Future additions including the 747-200, SP, 300, and 747-8.
This is also the first PMDG project where the team is inviting simmers to follow along with development updates, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the process.
What’s Next?
The PMDG team is working to finalize MSFS2024 conversions, ensuring the development of the 747 series stays on track. More updates, images, and details will be shared as the project progresses, so stay tuned!
PMDG’s 747 line isn’t just a product—it’s a tribute to one of the most iconic aircraft in aviation history. From the flight deck to the wingtip, this is a simulation experience that will take your love for the Queen of the Skies to new heights.
