AMERICAN AIRLINES, DELTA HIT WITH LARGE FINES

The Department of Transportation has fined American Airlines $1 million and Delta Air Lines $750,000 for keeping passengers waiting in planes on tarmacs for more hours than allowed under federal law. The DOT found that between December 2015 and January 2017, 10 of American Airlines’ domestic flights and three international flights remained on the tarmac at various U.S. airports for more than three hours without being given the opportunity to deplane. The agency said 11 Delta flights were left for too long on the tarmac between January 2017 and February 2018.
